Earthquake Update from Sr. Annie

Sr. Annie wrote this a few weeks ago following the earthquake (terremoto) in April. Although the quake didn't damage the Foundation, some of Sr. Annie's staff mounted a relief effort - cooking and bringing food, clothing, and water to the affected area, the province of Manabi. Here are some photos.

Dear Friends, Our heart felt thanks go to you for your outreach to those who have and continue to be affected by the recent earthquake in Ecuador.

(Tents which were donated by the Chinese government)

A group of workers and friends of Damien House were able to travel five hours to San Jacinto (a small fishing village) where little help was received.  They were given camping tents from the government and larger tents from China.  Most were given mattresses to place on the sand, yet many were sleeping on the ground.  People are still begging for help.  The gratitude in their eyes can be seen by the photos taken by Germania Moran, Administrator of Damien House.  We send these photos to you with great pride knowing that over 500 people were fed this past Sunday and given rations of food, clothes, etc.  We hope that you feel as good when you view the smiling faces.  They were so grateful to be remembered.  See the photos attached!

Tonight I leave for Rome and I will remember all of you in prayer on Sunday at the mass with Pope Francis.  I too am grateful for your generosity in making this trip possible.  Unfortunately, my assistant, Germania Moran, was not able to get her visa in time to travel to Italy.

Please pray that I have the opportunity to personally deliver the handy crafts made by our patients to Pope Francis.  I wish you all blessings and peace!
You are in my heart and my prayers,
Annie
