From Padre Juan - WBC is 47 Years Old!

Dear folks,

Today is the 47th birthday of the Working BoysCenter - A Family Of Families, a miracle that God has wrought. We celebrate the success of six going on seven thousand families feeding their hungry, curing their sick and, as good missionaries, spreading the wealth of the values Christ taught us to help each other on the way to Heaven.

All of us are big into what God says about giving being the way to getting more to give. Spreading this gospel based economics around would be a lot faster and less bumpy if the financial weather reporters would stop predicting that it ain't gonna rain no more. That makes people doubt that they should make their usual sacrifices.

Most of our WBC years, with the exception of the very few with an especially successful fund raiser event or a huge cash prize for good conduct, have been nervous years in the service facing the threat of fizzling out during long stretches of not having cash to pay the bills. We know as well as everybody that economic problems are real and they are scarey and they come and go every year. So I doze off during the financial reports and dream about benefactors working miracles.

I dream that while you're reading this letter, you remember that money maker who owes you a favor and you call and tell him that he can't sleep until he pledges our next year's budget. I dream you win the lottery and don't want all that responsibility and you ask me to take it off your hands. I dream I am the keynote speaker at a multimillionaires fund raiser for theCenter, and my guardian angel says, "You stand there; cool it and just move your lips; I'll save this show."

Then I wake up and I know you are there and I thank God you are not just a dream.

Happy WBC Birthday!

Plans are coming right along

A few weeks ago, Chris and I made a presentation to the Confirmation Candidates about 2010 Mission Trip hoping to gain more interest about the 2012 trip. At that point, we only had 8 people signed up and I was starting to get a little nervous because we have to have 10 people to make the trip viable. Luckily, our efforts worked! We now have several young people interested, and I am awaiting their responses (due by Jan 1st).

2012 Mission Trip

Planning has begun for next summer's mission trip to Ecuador! We are looking forward to a group of 10 people, mostly teenagers, to experience first hand, the work of the Working Boys' Center and the warmth and hospitality of the Ecuadorian people.
